A breeding resident. Scarce. Occurs widely but sparsely, both across the Waterberg and in the surrounding thorn savanna (63% in, 37% out; recorded in 19% of the Waterberg pentads); it is mostly singing males perched conspicuously that are recorded, and in winter this species becomes essentially undetectable. Parasitises Jameson’s Firefinch.
