A breeding resident. Fairly common in the surrounding thorn savanna but scarce and localised in the Waterberg (28% in, 72% out; recorded in 32% of the Waterberg pentads); in summer breeding males are conspicuous but in winter this species is easily overlooked. Parasitises Green-winged Pytilia.
