A breeding resident. Common. Occurs widely across the Waterberg and likely to be present on any farm dam or stretch of open water along a river that has bare edges (recorded in 70% of the Waterberg pentads); occurs as single birds, in pairs or, after breeding, in flocks of up to 50 birds. Breeds in winter-early summer.
