A breeding resident. Common and widespread across the Waterberg, less so in the surrounding thorn savanna (67% in, 37% out; recorded in 91% of the Waterberg pentads); single birds are often encountered feeding along roads but it is mostly detected by hearing its characteristic call. Breeds in summer.
