A breeding resident. An arid country species, it is fairly common in the surrounding thorn savannas but is generally scarce and localised in the Waterberg (37% in, 63% out and recorded in 49% of the Waterberg pentads) where it occurs mostly on the fringes and in pockets of thornveld. Breeds in summer.
