A breeding resident. Common and widespread across the Waterberg, less so in the surrounding thorn savanna (58% in, 42% out; recorded in 90% of the Waterberg pentads); frequents any woodland; in year-round territorial pairs; its presence is usually detected by its characteristic trilling song. Breeds in summer.
