A breeding resident. An arid savanna species, it occurs widely and is locally common in the surrounding thorn savanna, ranging narrowly in the fringes of the Waterberg where thornveld occurs (14% in, 84% out; recorded in 25% of the Waterberg pentads); occurs singly, in pairs or in small flocks. Breeds at any time of the year.
