Rallus caerulescens  |  African Rail  |  Grootriethaan

Modimolle area, Dec 2015

Probably a breeding resident. Rare, recorded very sparsely, mostly in the south-east (recorded in 5% of the Waterberg pentads); frequents reed- and sedge-beds in marshy ground; secretive and easily overlooked unless it is calling, so it is probably under-recorded; it is likely that it breeds here but evidence is lacking.
