A breeding resident. Fairly common and widespread across the Waterberg, less so in the surrounding thorn savanna (69% in, 31% out; recorded in 68% of the Waterberg pentads); frequents any broad-leafed woodland; a group-living species, occurring in close-knit families of 3-10 birds which, in winter, may wander widely, appearing briefly in places where not normally seen. Breeds in summer.
