A rare, erratic visitor. Single birds or pairs come into the area from time to time, usually remaining only briefly; found mostly on larger dams, especially on the irrigation dams in the Alma valley from Rankin’s Pass to Bokpoort; sometimes breeds here, recorded laying between Jun and Aug.
