A resident. Common in the thorn savannas that surround the Waterberg, but in the Waterberg it is less widespread, scarce in some years and commoner in others; favours open country, especially agricultural areas (40% in, 60% out; recorded in 53% of the Waterberg pentads); encountered singly, in pairs, or small groups; there are no records of it breeding in the Waterberg though it surely does.
