A breeding resident. Rare. Occurs sparsely in open high-lying areas in the southern half of the Waterberg (recorded in 7% of the Waterberg pentads); found as single birds or in small groups; shy and unapproachable; some birds move off the Waterberg onto the Springbok Flats in winter. Breeds in early to mid-summer.
