A breeding resident. Rare and localised, it occurs as scattered pairs along perennial streams and rivers in well-wooded valleys and kloofs in the Waterberg (recorded in 3% of the Waterberg pentads); a forest-living species elsewhere in its range, the Waterberg population is a distant outlier from its main range. Breeds in summer.
