A breeding resident. Scarce and localised in the Waterberg where found mostly on the central plateau; more frequently recorded in the surrounding thorn savanna (43% in 57% out; recorded in 35% of the Waterberg pentads); frequents open woodland; solitary, except when breeding; its presence is mostly detected from hearing its piercing whistled call. That it breeds in the Waterberg is indicated by the presence of displaying males but further evidence is lacking.
