A breeding resident. Fairly common and widespread across the Waterberg, less so in the surrounding thorn savanna (60% in, 40% out; recorded in 60% of the Waterberg pentads); frequents flat, open or sparsely wooded country so largely restricted to areas cleared of bush by past or present agriculture; occurs singly or in pairs while breeding; a conspicuous bird, not likely to be overlooked where it occurs. Breeds in early summer.
