A breeding resident. Common and widespread across the eastern side of the Waterberg, becoming more scarce towards the drier west and in the surrounding thorn savanna (62% in, 38% out; recorded in 81% of the Waterberg pentads); frequents bush thickets in woodland, hence often along water-courses and at the base of hills and ridges; territorial, in pairs year-round. Breeds in summer.
