A breeding resident. Locally common in places, it occurs widely but sparsely across the Waterberg and in the surrounding thorn savanna (48% in, 52% out; recorded in 43% of the Waterberg pentads); found singly, in pairs, or in small family groups, it occurs in most wooded habitats. Breeds in late summer; parasitised by the Village Indigobird.
