A non-breeding summer visitor from the Palearctic, present between Dec and Mar. Uncommon and erratic in occurrence on the Waterberg (recorded in 3% of Waterberg pentads); its occurrence here is restricted to agricultural landscapes, foraging over croplands and roosting alongside dams; it occurs more regularly on the adjacent Springbok Flats where, in some years, it is present in flocks numbering thousands of birds.
