A non-breeding summer visitor from the Palearctic, present between Nov and Mar. Scarce but widely recorded in the Waterberg; much more numerous in the adjacent thorn savanna on the Springbok Flats (55% in, 45% out; recorded in 27% of the Waterberg pentads); gregarious, occurs in flocks which disperse during the day and aggregate at night in large numbers to roost communally in tall trees.
