A breeding resident. A mainly arid savanna species that occurs fairly commonly in the surrounding thorn savanna but is scarce and localised in the Waterberg (39% in, 61% out; recorded in 36% of the Waterberg pentads); frequents open woodland; group-living, usually found in groups of 3-5 birds. Breeds in summer.
