Estrilda erythronotos  Black-faced Waxbill Swartwangsysie

Lephalale, May 2018

Probably a breeding resident. An arid savanna species, it is fairly common and widespread in the surrounding thorn savanna but in the Waterberg it is uncommon and largely restricted to the fringes and where thornveld pockets exist (79% out, 21% in; recorded in 19% of the Waterberg pentads); found in pairs or in family groups of up to 10 birds.
