Probably a breeding resident. An arid savanna species that is common in the surrounding thorn savanna, its range extending into the fringes of the Waterberg and, in a few places, to outliers of thornveld habitat on the plateau (79% out, 21% in; recorded in 22% of the Waterberg pentads); occurs singly or in pairs.
