A breeding resident. Common and widespread both across the Waterberg and in the surrounding thorn savanna – it is the commonest bunting in the region (55% in, 45% out; recorded in 91% of the Waterberg pentads); frequents any woodland; in pairs year-round, its presence is usually given away by its cheerful song. Breeds in summer.
