A breeding resident. Common and widespread across the Waterberg, less so in the surrounding thorn savanna (61% in, 39% out; recorded in 97% of the Waterberg pentads); it is the most frequently recorded bushshrike in the Waterberg and occurs in any woodland, often detected from hearing the male’s “chick-wheeo” whistle; a regular member of mixed-species bird parties in winter. Breeds in summer.
