A nomadic, mainly arid country species. Erratically present and scarce in the Waterberg, it is more frequent in the surrounding thorn savanna (39% in, 61% out; recorded in 31% of the Waterberg pentads); frequents open country when present, mostly in agricultural areas; gregarious, in flocks of dozens to hundreds. There is no evidence that it breeds in the Waterberg.
