A breeding resident. Localised but fairly common in places in the higher-lying, higher rainfall south-eastern side of the Waterberg; mostly absent from the drier north (recorded in 39% of the Waterberg pentads); favours kloofs and ravines, coming into well-wooded gardens in the towns and around farm homesteads; found singly or in pairs. Breeds in summer, parasitised by the Red-chested Cuckoo.
