A breeding resident. Scarce; occurs widely but sparsely across the Waterberg, much less frequently in the surrounding thorn savanna (80% in, 20% out; recorded in 31% of the Waterberg pentads); frequents farm dams, rivers and streams that have fringing vegetation; usually encountered singly. Breeds in summer.
