Chrysococcyx caprius Diederik Cuckoo Diederikkie

Welmoed, Nov 2017

Lephalale, Jan 2020
juvenile

A breeding summer visitor, present between Oct and Apr. Common and widespread, both across the Waterberg and in the surrounding thorn savanna (53% in, 47% out; recorded in 77% of the Waterberg pentads); frequents both woodland and open country, especially agricultural areas; parasitic, its occurrence is perhaps dictated by the presence of its preferred hosts, namely weavers. Breeds in summer.
