A breeding resident. Fairly common and widespread across the Waterberg, less so in the surrounding thorn savanna (70% in, 30% out; recorded in 57% of the Waterberg pentads); frequents well-wooded ravines, valleys and hillsides favouring the lower- and mid-canopy strata; occurs singly or in pairs while breeding, its presence mostly given away by its tripping song, pairs often calling in duet. Breeds in summer.
