A breeding resident. Fairly common and widespread across the Waterberg and usually found wherever its preferred habitat occurs (58% in, 42% out; recorded in 61% of the Waterberg pentads); frequents open, shortly cropped grassland, mostly in areas where past or present agriculture has replaced woodland with grassland; occurs singly or in pairs. Breeds in summer.
