A breeding resident. Fairly common and widespread across the Waterberg; much less frequent in the surrounding thorn savanna (84% in, 17% out; recorded in 41% of the Waterberg pentads); frequents open woodland, favouring glades with a short, dense grass under-storey; found singly or in pairs while breeding, often in loosely associated small flocks in winter. Breeds in summer.
