A breeding resident. Scarce. Largely restricted to the south-eastern half of the Waterberg where it is mostly found on dams fringed by vegetation in agricultural landscapes (recorded in 31% of the Waterberg pentads); occurs singly, in pairs or in small parties of 3-15 birds. Breeds in summer.
