A breeding resident. Fairly common; this species is primarily a river-living duck and is found in scattered pairs and family groups along all the perennial rivers in the Waterberg – the Waterberg is probably one of its strongholds in the country (recorded in 40% of the Waterberg pentads). Breeds in late winter.
