A breeding resident. Common – the most widely and commonly recorded duck in the Waterberg (recorded in 73% of the Waterberg pentads). It is most numerous in areas under cultivation, especially in the Alma valley where, in winter, flocks of 150-300 may congregate on irrigation dams; elsewhere mostly found in pairs along smaller rivers and associated dams. Breeds mainly in summer.
