Acrocephalus gracilirostris | Lesser Swamp Warbler | Kaapse Rietsanger

Modimolle, Dec 2015

A breeding resident. Occurs widely across the Waterberg and likely to occur wherever extensive stands of Phragmites reed are to be found over standing water – along rivers or around the margins of dams; localised, but common in places (83% in, 17% out; recorded in 16% of the Waterberg pentads); in pairs while breeding, its presence is mostly detected from hearing its melodious warbling song coming from the depth of a reedbed. Breeds in summer.
