Acrocephalus arundinaceus Great Reed Warbler Grootrietsanger

Modimolle, Dec 2021

Lephalale, Mar 2017

Die Oog, Mar 2017

A non-breeding summer visitor from the Palearctic, present between Dec and Mar. Sparsely recorded across the Waterberg and in the surrounding thorn savanna (recorded in 5% of the Waterberg pentads); a skulking, solitary species, it frequents reedbeds and the lower layers in woody thickets, especially along drainage lines, its presence mostly detected by hearing its sustained grating song.
