A breeding resident. Scarce. Occurs widely but sparsely across much of the Waterberg on the larger farm dams, especially in agricultural areas (recorded in 39% of the Waterberg pentads); in pairs or small groups in summer but in winter flocks of 200-500 birds may be encountered. Breeds in late summer.
